Movie Review Barfi - Siddharth B. Sethia

Ranbir and Priyanka's act leaves you speechless!

Barfi - Movie Poster
This is it, The Best Ever Role a Young actor could ever get...Anurag Basu's flick has just given Ranbir the best twist ever in his career yet. The central premise of the film is that true LOVE is what is Unplanned, unpremeditated, unblemished....

‘Barfi’ is just about that. ‘Barfi!’ narrates the story of the namesake character Barfi (originally named as Murphy by his parents) played by Ranbir Kapoor who has a speech and hearing impairment and lives every single day of his life to the hilt and how!  Shruti played by Illeana D’Cruz narrates the magical tale of Barfi. Murphy (Barfi) who happens to be a happy-go-lucky character that lives with his ageing father in Darjeeling of 1970s. Barfi chances upon Shruti on her visit to Darjeeling and she finds herself losing her heart to him despite the fact that she is engaged to a wealthy man back in Kolkata. After a brief romance, Shruti chooses material comforts over true love and leaves Barfi heartbroken to marry the moneyed man.

Movie Still - Barfi.
And here unfolds a mysterious character, autistic Jhilmil Chatterjee played by Priyanka Chopra, who belongs to an affluent family in Darjeeling but her family barely cares for her sensitive needs. Barfi finds his father battling kidney failure and penniless Barfi looks for all ways to get the money for his treatment but in vain. When left with no other way, Barfi plans with his best friend to kidnap Jhilmil and blackmail her parents for the money.

And then, the story unfolds, Barfi and Jhilmil realise that they are perfect couple and they can share their life with each other, keeping their physical imperfections aside. On the other hand, even after 6 years of marriage, Shruti comes to know that she still has strong feelings for Barfi.
The story moves back and forth from 1978, 1972 and 2012 in an easy-to-follow fashion and the film’s songs are simply soulful.

While Ranbir and Priyanka effortlessly prove themselves the best actors of their generation, Ileana D'Crus makes a confident engaging debut into Hindi Cinema. A must watch....
Overall I would rate the movie as 4 out of 5.

Movie Review Joker - Siddharth B. Sethia

Joker - a big Joke for our fellow ALIENS!!!

This is what the ALIENS had to say…

Aliens said, "Hamara mazaak mat udaao", "Don't fly our jokes.

The movie ‘Joker’ was much awaited film for the year after EK THA TIGER. I have a question can Akki and Sonakshi save this film. But still was an awaited flick since after Bollywood’s exciting and a rather successful brush with ‘Jaadu’ - the most adorable alien we all met in Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Koi Mil Gaya,’ everyone was really expecting something big from Joker But, Kunder’s much ambitious project- ‘Joker’ clearly lacks the ‘wow’ factor.

Agasthya played by Akshay Kumar is a qualified US scientist working on a machine that promises to communicate with extra-terrestrials. His machine doesn’t deliver on time and his employers lose faith in their judgement. The 600-odd residents of Paglapur are eccentric because they are have all descended from the inhabitants of a lunatic asylum. Agasthya's father, it turns out, is actually hale and hearty, the story about his dying a trick to get his son to come home and help the village, and when he fails from the local politicians Agasthya comes up with the bright idea of faking crop circles and aliens to get the world to pay attention to the village's plight.

And then let’s meet the other characters of the film; Sonakshi Sinha mostly clings on to Akki’s arm as his girlfriend Diva. Shreyas Talpade is very good as the brother and manages to convey all his emotions with just a handful of gibberish words that he has to mouth throughout the movie. Vindu Dara Singh’s act is annoying. Thankfully Minissha Lamba gets very little time for hamming as a press reporter. And Asrani, who is the local teacher who translates from English into Hindi and vice-versa.

"When someone says, "Hamara mazaak mat udaao", he helpfully renders that as, "Don't fly our jokes."

And hence at-last the bright idea of faking crop circles and aliens, he sells it to the media and the world as alien doing strange things in Paglapur, because of which reporters and scientists crowd the village and things are starting to look up with lots of song and dance. But Agasthya’s competitor Simon Goeback (Alexx ONell) gets the reality behind it puts a spanner in the works when he arrives in Paglapur and calls the whole thing a hoax. And finally so called fun chase starts…

The Few Last words for the movie…
Chitrangada Singh - Joker Movie
 Chitrangada Singh in Joker
Visual effects are the highlight of ‘Joker’ and the plot doesn’t have much to offer. So it’s just Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha’s chemistry that can work for the films now.

However, Akshay Kumar completely stayed away from the ‘Joker’ promotions. As being reported, Akshay was not satisfied with output of the film as this was not something he was promised initially. After watching the film, you may understand why Akshay refrained from promoting ‘Joker’.

Oh! I almost forgot the mention the best thing about ‘Joker’ – undoubtedly the gorgeous Chitrangada Singh, who rocks in ‘Kaafirana’. Wish there was more her in the film.

And finally give Joker a miss if you value your sanity and money.
