Movie Review Barfi - Siddharth B. Sethia

Ranbir and Priyanka's act leaves you speechless!

Barfi - Movie Poster
This is it, The Best Ever Role a Young actor could ever get...Anurag Basu's flick has just given Ranbir the best twist ever in his career yet. The central premise of the film is that true LOVE is what is Unplanned, unpremeditated, unblemished....

‘Barfi’ is just about that. ‘Barfi!’ narrates the story of the namesake character Barfi (originally named as Murphy by his parents) played by Ranbir Kapoor who has a speech and hearing impairment and lives every single day of his life to the hilt and how!  Shruti played by Illeana D’Cruz narrates the magical tale of Barfi. Murphy (Barfi) who happens to be a happy-go-lucky character that lives with his ageing father in Darjeeling of 1970s. Barfi chances upon Shruti on her visit to Darjeeling and she finds herself losing her heart to him despite the fact that she is engaged to a wealthy man back in Kolkata. After a brief romance, Shruti chooses material comforts over true love and leaves Barfi heartbroken to marry the moneyed man.

Movie Still - Barfi.
And here unfolds a mysterious character, autistic Jhilmil Chatterjee played by Priyanka Chopra, who belongs to an affluent family in Darjeeling but her family barely cares for her sensitive needs. Barfi finds his father battling kidney failure and penniless Barfi looks for all ways to get the money for his treatment but in vain. When left with no other way, Barfi plans with his best friend to kidnap Jhilmil and blackmail her parents for the money.

And then, the story unfolds, Barfi and Jhilmil realise that they are perfect couple and they can share their life with each other, keeping their physical imperfections aside. On the other hand, even after 6 years of marriage, Shruti comes to know that she still has strong feelings for Barfi.
The story moves back and forth from 1978, 1972 and 2012 in an easy-to-follow fashion and the film’s songs are simply soulful.

While Ranbir and Priyanka effortlessly prove themselves the best actors of their generation, Ileana D'Crus makes a confident engaging debut into Hindi Cinema. A must watch....
Overall I would rate the movie as 4 out of 5.

Movie Review Joker - Siddharth B. Sethia

Joker - a big Joke for our fellow ALIENS!!!

Joker - Movie Poster
Joker - Movie poster

This is what the ALIENS had to say…

Aliens said, "Hamara mazaak mat udaao", "Don't fly our jokes.

The movie ‘Joker’ was much awaited film for the year after EK THA TIGER. I have a question can Akki and Sonakshi save this film. But still was an awaited flick since after Bollywood’s exciting and a rather successful brush with ‘Jaadu’ - the most adorable alien we all met in Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Koi Mil Gaya,’ everyone was really expecting something big from Joker But, Kunder’s much ambitious project- ‘Joker’ clearly lacks the ‘wow’ factor.

Agasthya played by Akshay Kumar is a qualified US scientist working on a machine that promises to communicate with extra-terrestrials. His machine doesn’t deliver on time and his employers lose faith in their judgement. The 600-odd residents of Paglapur are eccentric because they are have all descended from the inhabitants of a lunatic asylum. Agasthya's father, it turns out, is actually hale and hearty, the story about his dying a trick to get his son to come home and help the village, and when he fails from the local politicians Agasthya comes up with the bright idea of faking crop circles and aliens to get the world to pay attention to the village's plight.

Joker - Movie Still
And then let’s meet the other characters of the film; Sonakshi Sinha mostly clings on to Akki’s arm as his girlfriend Diva. Shreyas Talpade is very good as the brother and manages to convey all his emotions with just a handful of gibberish words that he has to mouth throughout the movie. Vindu Dara Singh’s act is annoying. Thankfully Minissha Lamba gets very little time for hamming as a press reporter. And Asrani, who is the local teacher who translates from English into Hindi and vice-versa.

"When someone says, "Hamara mazaak mat udaao", he helpfully renders that as, "Don't fly our jokes."

And hence at-last the bright idea of faking crop circles and aliens, he sells it to the media and the world as alien doing strange things in Paglapur, because of which reporters and scientists crowd the village and things are starting to look up with lots of song and dance. But Agasthya’s competitor Simon Goeback (Alexx ONell) gets the reality behind it puts a spanner in the works when he arrives in Paglapur and calls the whole thing a hoax. And finally so called fun chase starts…

The Few Last words for the movie…
Chitrangada Singh - Joker Movie
 Chitrangada Singh in Joker
Visual effects are the highlight of ‘Joker’ and the plot doesn’t have much to offer. So it’s just Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha’s chemistry that can work for the films now.

However, Akshay Kumar completely stayed away from the ‘Joker’ promotions. As being reported, Akshay was not satisfied with output of the film as this was not something he was promised initially. After watching the film, you may understand why Akshay refrained from promoting ‘Joker’.

Oh! I almost forgot the mention the best thing about ‘Joker’ – undoubtedly the gorgeous Chitrangada Singh, who rocks in ‘Kaafirana’. Wish there was more her in the film.

And finally give Joker a miss if you value your sanity and money.

Movie Review Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi - Siddharth B.Sethia

This is NO DIRTY PICTURE...

Movie Poster Shirin Farhad ki toh nikal padi
The film’s connection with feminine curves and their varied dimensions stems from the fact that its chaste-at-heart male protagonist is a 45-year-old lingerie salesman who is still in search of the perfect woman.

The guy that is Farhad Pastakia played by Boman Irani, salesman at TEM TEM Bra and Panty Store, has spent half his life serving women of all body types without quite being able to get his arms around the shape that is best for him. And he for all this year’s kept asking, So what's your size is it 36D, 36B, 30A!!!???. Which one's you want? What style and pattern you want? And so on....

So when a '36B' Shirin Fuggawala which is played by Farah Khan comes into his store, his heart uplifts like for the first time; and he knows he's finally found his 'size'. Farhad Pastakia is a 45 year old working as a salesman in a lingerie shop and Shirin is still single as she has an ailing father to take care of. The conflict element in their "Love at First Sight" is provided by Farhad’s Mom who just can't forgive Shirin for a mere petty issue. How the two of them finally manage to unite in matrimony is the resolution to this flick.
Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi doesn't come across as a film on heartbreaks, heartaches or rona-dhona. This one's a feel-good entertainer. You wear a smile on your face as you exit the auditorium.

Movie Still Left Boman Irani, Right Farah Khan
Sanjay Leela Bhansali has written this movie and the comedy portions standout. Some funny scenes are built around Farhad’s profession. The first encounter between Shirin and Farhad’s mom is another brilliant funny sequence. The romance is also likable with several cutesy moments. Bela Bhansali Sehgal has directed this movie and she has presented this movie in an engaging manner with just a few glitches.

At less than two hours, Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi demands little of you and delivers enough for you to not grudge spending time and money on it. I suggest you watch it for some honest moments and a lovable performance by Boman Irani. Overall I would this move 3 out of 5.

Movie Review - The Expendables 2 by Siddharth B. Sethia

The Expendables 2 is back in a sequel with even more legendary action stars & is quite better then prequel of Expendables.

Before I head on writing more about the movie, let me be clear on one thing, that this movie is...
STRICTLY FOR ACTION MOVIE LOVERS.....
Only for the people who love to be raw, sweaty, and of-course BLOODY!!!
The Expendables 2 Team
The opening of The Expendables 2 is bang bang with full of action and rough-tuff group of mercenaries on a  rescue mission, Nepal. The action pack heroes are on three fully loaded vehicles, resembling war trucks, enter with grandeur.

The film takes off immediately and you find your favorite heroes doing the impossible action plots like the running through the jungles, jumping between tanks and explosions. Many action scenes are just mind boggling... But for all those who love these action heroes doing incredible stunts then The Expendables 2 is the right choice for this weekend.

The story of the movie....
Stallone and Arnold - The Expendables 2
After an explosive start to the movie, Barney Ross played by Stallone and his team of Expendables that includes Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Liam Hemsworth are called in for a mission to pay off a debt, their mission is to retrieve some classified information from a safe in the wreckage of a plane. Martial Art Maggie played by Nan Yu comes along to help. Unfortunately, the sinister Jean Vilain played by Van Damme steals the intel - the secret location of a store of plutonium & puts it to use. The worst part of the movie is that he also kills one of the Barney's team member and heres where the revenge begins... So the Expendables vows revenge, hopefully saving the world at the same time, And then the twist that is all the co-stars join the fun from time to time that is Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis and the TERMINATOR - Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The Last words to say about the movie....

If you are an action freak and you love the Man of Steel, then surely you should go and give a treat to yourself watching The Expendables 2 gang presenting before you an action never seen before...My advice would be if you want to get thrilled for about 100 minutes then The Expendables 2 is a must watch. Go grab the tastiest popcorn and a chilled bottle of your favorite soft drink or you can even try it with mug of your favorite hot brew and enjoy the ride that's called THE EXPENDABLES 2.I would rate this movie 3.5 out of 5.
Thanks for reading....

Movie Review Ek tha Tiger – Siddharth B. Sethia (sbs)

Hello Everyone,

Ek Tha Tiger…Action Packed Love Story… the much awaited movie of the year and the much talked about. It all started from the SPIDER MAN, BATMAN and finally """SALMAN""" Salman Khan is an individual that invites admiration and applause in any kind of film format or movie genre.
Ek Tha Tiger looked very promising prior to its release and the film does entertain you to an extent.

Ek Tha Tiger
Ek Tha Tiger

The story of the movie is something like this, SALMAN is playing as Tiger, a super-heroic RAW agent who sprints, shoots and crunches bones without a glimmer of worry or sweat. Tiger has never taken an off in his 12 years of career serving RAW and then Tiger is entrusted with the task of collecting external intelligence by spying on a Trinity College Professor, who has apparently been approached by the ISI for sharing missile technology secrets. This is where he ends up meeting his ladylove (Zoya) which is played by Katrina Kaif, the professor’s residence caretaker. Tiger introduces himself as Manish Chandra, a writer, and seeks her help in getting an appointment with the professor. This is where the story takes another lane and the though Tiger knows that he is on a mission and he dare not fall in love, he loses his heart to Zoya, dance instructor, invites Tiger for a show and here is where you would find a twist in the story…not only one but more than one twist...
I don’t want to reveal the whole plot but the love story has a never ending action. The journey continues from Dublin to Istanbul to Havana and so on…Also it’s such a pleasure to see a Hindi film heroine not playing a damsel in distress that is Zoya - Kat, she is also an active performer as Tiger is and that is also an additional highlight of the film. The action, is spectacular in the movie just like a James Bond movie types. There are chases on terraces, runaway trams and lots of smashed cars. It does tend to go on and on…Specially the bike ride of Salman at the Climax scene is just spectacular and a bit foolish too…but you can definitely enjoy if you can just keep your head aside and enjoy the macho show…
And mostly importantly, though Salman and Katrina deny being in a relationship in real life, their chemistry onscreen looks every bit convincing. And the duo is an absolute delight to the eyes!
Overall to say you can watch this movie definitely if you are a die-hard fan of both the stars…Overall to rate the movie, I would give it 3.5 out of 5.
